Education relies on stable income.
There are numerous reasons why children in places like Andong don't go to or stay in school. Lack of family income is a major one.
In Andong, it's not uncommon for families to be burdened by significant debts, forcing children into early employment, Many are living day-to-day, without a financial safety net to cover unexpected expenses like medical bills or essential household purchases. When they seek financial assistance, they often turn to lenders charging excessively high interest rates.

Which is why in 2016, we opened the first and only skilled employment opportunity inside the Andong Community. We employed and trained six local mothers, enabling them to earn a living for their families while their children attended school.
Due to Covid, we had to close our sewing centre. We donated all machines and materials to our mothers and are delighted to advise that they now run the sewing centre independently as their own local business, making it fully sustainable. This is the best outcome we could have hoped for - a sustainable way for mothers in Andong to support their families! |

Micro-Financing and Vocational Training
Our giving philosophy has always been to provide a hand-up, not a hand-out. That's why these days, our focus for income generation and employment pathways focuses on those willing to better themselves and create better lives for their families. We do this through micro-financing start-up loans and vocational training initiatives.
We've helped Andong's micro-entrepreneurs start their own businesses, from providing fishing nets to establishing a mechanic business. We continue to source vocational training opportunities for parents and youths in the community who show dedication and commitment to improving their lives and supporting their families.
We're constantly on the look out for new business partners, so please let us know if there's an opportunity to work together.

Building Andong's Community Centre: Creating a safe space for all
This project plans to be our most sustainable yet!!
In 2017, we purchased land between the six Andong sites and in 2024, we commenced the build of a community centre that will serve the needs of Andong, while also providing longer-term ownership and accountability for all. Now is the perfect time to invest in a high quality, architecturally designed community centre because for the first time, true sustainability is a possibility. Following economic growth in the area, the community centre will not just serve our current projects, but it will become a hub for high quality, paid English lessons. We are yet to hit out fundraising goal to complete this build. Open the proposal to see how you can help! |
